All-Star

There is actually a funny story behind this song.  I had just finished writing this song based on a message the Lord had really put on my heart.  The next morning I woke up to the radio announcing Smash Mouth's new hit single, All-star!  I thought I was going to throw up!: )  I am always one day too late!  Of course, my song had a much different meaning to it.

I had the privilege to participate in many all-star teems growing up in both baseball and basketball.  I started off my first year being the worst player on the team.  In both sports, I worked really hard practicing every single day to get better and better.  By my second year, I had made the all-star teams.  Wow, what favor!  I began to think about what it takes to become an all-star.  I compared this process with my Christian walk.

There are a lot of players in the league.  Only a select few work hard enough to make the all-star team.  Why is that?  In the same way, as Christians, we are all a part of a team.  We are all apart of the body of Christ.  We have a choice to make.  We can be everyday, average players sitting on the bench and take up space on the pews, or we can be all-stars for Christ.

I began reading in the book of Mathew, chapter 2, about the birth of Christ.  As the story unfolds, the three wise men searching for baby Jesus were told to follow the star.  They walked mile after mile.  Wherever the star went, they went.  They new that if the would just follow the star, they would find Jesus.  In the same way, people who don't have a relationship with God continue every day of their life trying to fill their lives with things that countlessly prove to return void.  We need more All-Stars for Christ that stand up and be a guide that shines the way to the Father.  People need to know that they can come to us.  If we are all-stars we stand out in the crowd, and people know that they can come to us to find Jesus.  Where the star was, so was Jesus.  We need to be living examples of Christ.  Man it is sure hard!  But, when we strike out, we need to continue taking batting practice!  When we miss a free throw, come back to the line and shoot until you can no longer lift your arms!  We will never be perfect until the Lord comes to take us home.  However, we should strive every day to grow in our love relationship with the Lord, so that we can show an accurate interpretation of the love of Christ.

There is an acrostic that I like to use for the word All-Star.  Practicing these things every day make us an All-star for Christ.

All-of these things make us an All-star
S-  Salvation (Gotta join the team to make the all-stars)
T-  Testimony (Of what God is doing in your life)
A-  Actions (Speak louder than words)
R-  Relationship (Ongoing, every day with Christ)
